Research to advance and improve
health policy, health systems, and health care delivery

The ultimate aim of the NIHR Health Services Research (HSR) programme is to lead to an increase in service quality and patient safety through better ways of planning and providing health services.

Launched in October 2008, the HSR programme has a predicted annual budget of £5million. The HSR programme will fund both primary research and evidence syntheses, depending on the availability of existing research and the most appropriate way of responding to important knowledge gaps.  All types of study proposals expected to enhance knowledge and understanding in the field of health services research will be funded by the programme. The programme will either fund multiple small studies or a single large study of national or international importance.
